MediaSight has released a Plug and Play Quick Response (QR) code widget for use in DC Media Digital Signage software. The widget accepts a URL, email address, V-Card or any other text as input and dynamically generates a QR code in any size, color or angle. QR codes are becoming increasingly more popular in retail and advertising. They can be used to send customers contact details, or send them to a YouTube video, a website address or provide them with a coupon.

“What makes this really exciting is that the widget accepts text containing dynamic macros that are translated when the input text is submitted to the QR code generator,” said Chris Coyle, CEO.  “This allows the user to insert date, time, location, zip code and other information in a URL and the resulting QR code will contain the updated URL text. By providing this functionality QR codes can be enhanced to include information specific to a location, and it can be used for user tracking and interactive content. By including the date and time in the encoded URL, the website servicing the URL can extract this information which can then be used to measure the QR code usage throughout a period of time, by further including a zip code or location ID usage of the QR code can be tracked on a per location basis”.

In addition to the dynamic nature of the QR code, company logos can be inserted into the center of the QR code for brand reinforcement.

DC Media includes an easy to use content authoring application that enables users to create their own content to match any display area or zone size. The content can include text, dynamic text, images and widgets. MediaSight has a range of widgets that add drop-in functionality to authored content such as a flight information display, an excel spreadsheet reader, interactive buttons, countdown clocks and more.
